Day 1 - getting rid of those weeds

My mind was racing this morning...I’m itching to get started...I want to start to grow veg!!! Woah, slow down brain you’ve got lots to do before then.

We knew that there were thistles and nettles on our patch so the first port of call was to get some thick gloves. Donned in our gardening finery (me with wellies!) we started to tackle the jungle. I was on my hands and knees tugging up what I could. David was bending over tugging up the weeds - he’ll suffer tomorrow!

We started on the main part but as we got towards the bigger stuff we diverted our attention to the raised beds. These were much easier. The soil seems to be clay on the main part and more sandy on the beds. I’m sure there’s a reason for this.

It was one of those occasions where we grafted, produced a big pile of rubbish but don’t feel that we’ve made much progress.

We've agreed that we need to clear it all before deciding what to do next...my brain will have keep quiet for a bit longer.
